Bulls Blood ‘Bikavér’ – Thummerer – Classicus 2016
Bulls Blood (Bikavér) Classicus – an excellent premium dry red wine from Thummerer Winery. Protected designation of origin
A sound vintage for well ripened, excellent quality grapes, with high sugars and well balanced acids.
Classicus Bulls Blood (Bikaver) is one of the most popular wines from Eger, with an ever increasing popularity in Europe over the last few years.
There are particular rules to qualify for the “Bulls Blood” community brand. This also varies slightly depending on the region it is produced. Szekszárd and Eger are only two regions, where Bulls Blood can be made. For this particular Bulls Blood, Kékfrankos must dominate – amongst other local varieties such as Kadarka – but no other variety can be over 50% in the blend. Varieties include: Kékfrankos, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Kadarka, Merlot & Pinot noir.
It has been barrel aged for 18 months in traditional Hungarian oak, followed by a minimum of 6 months ageing in bottles, which is also a prerequisite of a premium Bulls Blood cuvee.
Ruby in colour, rich and spicy, with smooth tannins. Aromas of red currant in the nose, complemented by the wonderful fragrances of the wooden barrel. A beautiful example of Classicus Bulls Blood from Eger.
It goes well with traditionally spicy pork, lamb, venison and cabbage dishes.
Recommended temperature to be consumed at 16-18°C
