Tokaji Szamorodni Sweet 2017
Tokaji Szamorodni is one of the most popular dessert wines of Tokaj amongst Hungarians. The word Szamorodni originates from Poland and it means: “As it has grown”.
It contains 50% of botrytised aszúberries and 50% of green berries, that adds a special character, and a nice balance to the wine.
Grape varieties used: 70% Zéta, 30% Muscat Lunel, harvested late in November, processed through reductive fermentation in stainless steel tank at 17 C, followed by 2 years of barrel ageing in 220 litre Hungarian oak barrels.
Pale lemon in colour. Elegant botrytis, orange peel, apricot, peach, and elderflower on the nose, whilst layers of honey, vanilla, apricot, pear and mango on the palate. Lovely full body, with a long finish. Szamorodni is a perfect wine for the Christmas season, or any time of the year for a sip of sweetness after dinner.
Szamorodni is recommended either as an aperitif, on its own, but also lovely with goose liver, blue cheese, or beside light fruity desserts.
Best served at 10-12°C.
