Kardos Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 2017 – Butella Edition
Tokaji Aszu is one of the most well known Hungaricums in the wine world. Kardos Tokaji Aszu is a delicious sweet white wine from Tokaj, Hungary, made Furmint & Harslevelu. Wine maker Gabor Kardos working in partnership with the renowned sweet winemaker László Butella.
Aszú berries are fully botrytised grapes. These botrytised berries are then hand selected berry by berry from the vines. 2017 was a fantastic vintage for Kardos winery in the village of Mad, with abundant yields, thanks to a wonderful season and perfectly ripened berries. Gently pressed and naturally fermented using wild yeasts until the ideal harmony of sugar, acidity and alcohol are reached, the wine is then matured in 300 litre barrels for 18 months.
Juicy lemon colour, with rich orange, quince and fresh figs over honey on the nose. An elegant palate leads with luscious tangerine, apricot and citrus jam. This Tokaji Aszu is perfectly zippy, as any great Furmint-based sweet wine should be, with a long and satisfying finish.
