Description
Nagy-Somlói Juhfark is a lively & zippy dry white wine from Somló-Hill.
Juhfark translates to ‘sheeps tail’ & simply refers to the shape of the clusters to that resemble sheeps tail. The bunches are elongated and have a cylinder-like shape, rather than being short, wide or chunky. Juhfark is not only a native white grape variety in the Somló wine region, but actually one of the oldest of such classic varieties in Hungary. It is also considered a high maintenance variety to grow, but with some talent and the right weather conditions, Juhfark can produce some outstanding, zesty wines with fantastic ageing potential.
Somló is a wine region also most known for its volcanic terroirs. Winemaker Tamas Kis takes pride in using strictly organic methods on his 4.5 hectare vineyards. The grapes are first hand harvested, then wild yeasts are used for the fermentation process, followed by 6 months ageing in used Hungarian Oak barrels.
Nagy-Somloi Juhfark exhibits wonderful savoury aromas along with juicy pears and citrus. Beautiful complexity is reached on the palate with saline minerality, floral notes, and a zesty finish. A perfect example of an elegant Juhfark.
This Juhfark makes an excellent accompaniment with Roast pork, soy-based stir fries, risotto or white fish.
Alc.: 12.0% abv.
