Description
Balla Geza Feketeleanyka, or Feteasca Neagr (in Romanian) can be translated loosely as ‘Black Maiden’. It is an indigenous and widely spread grape variety from Transylvania & Romania. Feketeleanyka is grown in the renowned Minis (Ménes in Hungarian) vineyard, not too far from Arad. The rolling hills of Minis benefit from long hours of sunshine, and granite rich terroir.
Balla Geza Feketeleanyka
The colour is dark and intense ruby & purple, as the name suggests. The aromas are rich and burst with juicy blue berry, black currant, black cherry, sour cherry. A layer of warm spices, such as cloves and cinnamon, with a touch of vanilla are also present. Similarly rich scents of dark fruits on the nose too, including plums, black cherry & spices. Due to the barrel ageing, Balla Geza Feketeleanyka has a silky-smooth texture. It has a medium body and a lovely medium to long finish. At the same time, it also has a tangy, juicy finish, with soft, tamed tannins, and well balanced acidity overall. Certainly not a heavy wine, that can benefit from a bit or airing. This wine is an excellent representative of this special grape variety.
A very pleasant wine to enjoy with blue cheese, braised lamb, meaty & tomato pastas, spicy goulash, or beef.
